Parov Stelar - Coco

"With his unmistakable sound-mix of Jazz- and Swing samples and electronic music, Parov Stelar has secured his own unique position in the world of music. His upcoming fourth album “Coco” is eagerly awaited. The double CD starts off where his successful LP’s “Rough Cuts”, “Seven And Storm” and “Shine” ended. On the other hand he is consequently developing his established jazzy sound, by adding new stylistic elements to his tunes. Also his dancefloor-productions, that up to now have only been published as singles, find a debut to a greater extent on his album. They meet with Stelar’s melancholic-melodious trademark-sound, which is well known from his earlier albums, but now is also spiced up with Hip-Hop beats and synth-pads. Parov Stelar manages to build bridges between his own worlds of sound with these extensive LP as well he as he does with listening- and dance-music in general. An electrifying album to fall for. The two CDs are originally thought of as one with tracks that can be danced to and one with tracks just for listening. Nevertheless the line between those two approaches becomes blurred in Parov Stelar’s newest compositions. The album makes your feet tap more and more with every track. The musician himself sees the whole thing as a “book for musical readers” which is classically defined in introduction, middle part and end. Because of downloading hit numbers on downloading platforms the “listening in” to albums and thereby reflecting on less prominent tracks, is lost. Parov Stelar sets “Coco” as a statement against this habit. Apart from two cooperation-tracks with the saxophone-player from his live-band, Max The Sax, Stelar has cooperated with six singers from different genres. This again gives “Coco” a characteristic, one and only feeling"

Alex, Alex, look what I found:

From an extremely hard to find album "Parov Stelar The Singles Collection Vol. 2" releases at the very end of 2008 in South Korea, I believe.

There is a song called Simple at the end of the album. It sounds like an early prototype of Catgroove from the forthcoming EP/Album Coco.

Here it is in its full 320 quality glory:

No, not Daylight. Daylight is an different complilation.

Single Collection Vol. 1 was released in 2008, I think. Single Collection Vol. 2 was released at the very end of 2008 and it features 3 never-before-released songs: Twilight, Simple (aka Catgroove 0.9 beta) and Sweet Candy.

Both have hit the net as rapidshare acrhives in the last month. Do a google search.

I dig this older version of Catgroove, but do you notice how the beat is simple? On the new album, Catgroove gets a more polished treatment. I am speculating, but I think when Parov recorded "Simple" which leaked and that got published on Single Collection Vol. 2, he realized that he had yet another gem on his hands and decided to rework it. While still maintaining its swinging jazzy feel, Catgroove gets extra energized in the spirit of such songs as Monster, Spider, Love and Rock For while also sounding like Libella Swing. Genius! I can't wait to hear the complete Catgroove song.

I noticed an increasing use of piano on the newest LP -- from Ragtime Cat to Starlight, from For Rose to Coco, from Distance to Dandy.

The two hip-hop tracks are so much better than I thought originally (Sunny Bunny Blues and Let's Roll).

I wish Parov would do a video similar to what Caravan Palace released did with Suzy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j95HbhTl60k

Of course, Caravan Palace's label -- Wagram -- has more money to sponsor such a video but, nevertherless, it can be done.

So far, Parov's videos have been underwhelming. Shine was the only real effort but you can tell it was a low-budget video.

Another discovery of the day:

The rap used in the new Parov track Sunny Bunny Blues can be heard in another project: the same lyrics were used for a remix of a Just Banks song Under the Influence: http://www.myspace.com/veda36

The Coco EP came out today. I am getting addicted to the song Distance feat. Lilith. Don't forget that she is getting major exposure on the RnB scene in the US currently due to being on new Joe and Chico DeBarge records. She is most missed though the new lead singer for the Parov band is pretty decent.

Alex, the Double CD is out in the States on Sept 14. It features a bonus track on CD 1 called Film Noir feat. Max the Sax. It sounds good from the preview.

We should have an online release party. I know it's released on different days in Europe but maybe we can have a release week?
