So Quiet - Summer and Winter

So Quiet is the music project of Tomasz Bień, a young Polish architect and graphic designer, who is also part of the duo At Home. The album consists of delicate acoustic soundscapes and refined electric accompaniments that produce a dreamy, lo-fi wonderland.

His songs craft themselves as they build with tiny pianos and child like acoustic guitars while being lathered with playful synths and organs that carry an organic feel of floating on air. Falling asleep tot his is bliss.

Saltillo - Ganglion

It is with great pleasure that i dedicate the blogs one hundredth post to this album. I don't know why I havn't posted this yet, in fact it astounds me that I have not. This album encompasses beauty and pain and all that comes in between. Songs of distant love and confused madness characterise this collection of beautifully orchestrated tracks.

Believe it or not, this record is the work of one man and his many instruments - soldering together the earthliness of strings and delicate female vocals with out-there electronic beats and texture. Saltillo succeeds in drawing influences from all realms - whether it be the native indian vocalisations on "Grafting" or the western slide guitar of "I'm on the wrong side" he manages to present a focused and enigmatic portrait of the modern neo-classical sound.

WTYF News

So I have been running this blog for a while now and have decided to take it in a new direction...well not an entire shift, but rather a growth of scope. I do enjoy music, as i'm sure you do - and i'm sure a lot of you really enjoy your independant artists. This is where things are going - not only do i want to utilize this blog to show people the music I personally love - i also want it to be a blog that promote's undiscovered, unheard talent.

What I am trying to say is - if you are part of a band who want to be heard/reviewed/promoted - and want to send either physical copies or digital copies of your music to me to be reviewed/promoted and potentially heard by many many people who visit this site - do not hesitate to contact me via email at shibby_2_that@hotmail.com

In the near future some more changes will be occuring regarding this site - but i'll wait till I have something concrete till I reveal anything more here...

Cheers,

Alex

Caspa - Everybody's Talking, Nobody's Listneing

Caspa is a DJ. That's about all i know really - featured on this album is a sick concoction of deep dubstep bass, jungle rhythms, a couple of powerful hip hop numbers and some chillout downtempo beats - a very interesting and diverse record.

Closure in Moscow - First Temple

Oh hey! A decent local band - not too many of these in Australia. Closure in Moscow come from good old Melbourne - when they were living here they toured frequently with shitty scene bands and that is probably one of the main reasons why i have not heard of them until yesterday...

Moving to America and signing to Equal Vision Records was a very good move - a lot of equal vision bands are bland and uninspired - but this is one of their very few exceptions (bear vs shark [RIP], moros eros [RIP] and the Kinison [RIP]) - oh shit....hopefully these guys have a longer span than those fabulous bands.

The music? it's fast, powerful and frenetic post-hardcore. Very technical guitars and soaring vocals - the vocals simply are amazing and make this album what it is - lead singer *enter name here* has a great range and knows how to belt out a tune - and htis only makes the music better. Opening Kissing Cousins is catchy as hell while vanguard is an all out assault of powerful guitars and thundering drums. Album highlight is A Night at the Spleen - motherfucking catchy as hell and id be lying if i was not turned on aurally during this song...

Unfortunately the second half of the album does die down abit - but hey i cut them some slack coz it's their first full length. Well done indeed.

After Three Seconds - Genius Loci EP

After Three Seconds are from Southbury, Conneticut in the United States - and to be honest i got no freaking idea where the hell that is because im from Adelaide, SA, AUS. But this doesnt matter coz music travels accross great seas to reach individual's ears right? Well this EP has successfully journeyed it's way to my ears - thank you interwebs.

You'll find a varied offering with this, i can only assume, the bands first foray into recording - and although it is obvious that there is a young group behind the tunes - there is also evidence showing musical maturity and knowledge (of which i have none of). Opener Tunguska immediately grabs hold of the listener with it's upbeat nature and use of jangly piano along with punching guitars - and to be honest there is nothign wrong with the piano playing this role - Pinkly Smooth did this successfully and so do these guys. The track really excells (and grabs my attention) with the piano solo at the breakdown (it's a fuck yeah moment) - it's melodic and powerful and bordering on cheesy...not nightwish cheesy but just enough to make it enjoyable.

Solstice is really where the bands maturity shines - the verses channel Ben Folds Five to perfection - this may not be a positive thing for many of you out there but i'd be lying if i didn't enjoy me some Ben Folds. The track has a semi-adult contemporary indie-pop feel (way too many genres there but who cares) but quickly transitions to a pseudo-metal sounding chorus - and then floating back to the original acoustic lullabye that ushered in the track.

Seven Skeletons Dancing. I have a bone to pick here...no pun intended of coure...I cannot get over how the vocal melody mirrors that of..dare i say it...Avril Lavignes "Complicated". Other than that the track offers a boppy indie number which is catchy as hell - driven by acoustic guitar and once again that piano which is a delightful element of the bands repetoir.

Finally, to end the EP we have a nine-minute romp of prog-rock goodness. Dead Man's Lantern is wisked in with some white noise and footsteps before a solo guitar starts to take hold - reminds me of The Thirty Years War (the band that started the Fall of Troy) - some neat drum work joins in and the song kicks off - shit some cool keyboard just kicked in...why not? I really enjoy the vocals on this one, showcasing the indie-rock tendencies of the band - its 'nice' in a good way.
This song reaks of sexy keyboard in the middle - whoever wrote the music somehow knew that i love that type of keyboard (seriously i know nothing about music i just know that this keyboard tone is whack) - so back to the song - there is some shredding and stop starting and powerful instrumentation which encompases the calm before the storm so to speak - everythign is stripped back to what i can tell is a semi-acoustic guitar accompanied by some thick bass goodiness, enter the piano, the building drums and we are set for the storm...

Is this EP enjoyable? Hell yeah, it's poppy, it's catchy and it has some seiorus rock out moments - if it wasn't for the semi-avril lavigne moment half way through id enjoy it even more - but that's not to say you shouldn't keep an eye on whats to come.

Random Post For Anonymous # 8 - Trust

Trust is something we constantly use every second of the day without knowing it. At this moment in time I am trusting that my internet won't cut out so i can post this waffle for you. But often trust is a lot more than just that. Imagine you were blind and about to cross the road - firstly you have to trust your own hearing - is the sound to cross the road for this direction or that direction? Or if a stranger offers there arm, do you trust them to take you cross the road safely? How much trust do you have in the drivers on the road to stop when the signal is red? These are all questions of trust - so who have you put your trust in lately?

Headphone Review - Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (250 ohm)

So i am no audiophile, which means this review won't be as pro as it should be. All i can tell you about these headphones is that they are so crisp, so full and so damn good.

I'm currently listneing to Organic Stereo's Brightness and the bass filters through the strings with magnificent ease while the taps of the xylophone permeate each ear and the bass drum breaks the thin ice with cleanliness. Bleeps whistle from side to side and i can still here the violins whizzing away in the background...

These, so far, are great for electronic music and anything experimental. Strings are hearty and vocals are forefront to any piece of music. Clarity is at an all time high with the cans handling multiple instumen arrangement with significant ease.

Comfort wise the velour earpads are a definite plus, although a little tight around the ears im sur ehtis will diminish with time as the bands get weaker. As for look...they don't make me look like a douche - they are quite fashinable...well as fashionable as headphones can get and look great. Well worht the 320 dollars - thanks Kevin Rudd :D
